And We're Off to the Oscar Races!

Hollywood’s 3 major Guilds, SAG, WGA and DGA, have now announced the nominations for their respective Guild’s top honors.  The front-runners, of course, give us much to mull over as we begin our Oscar speculation for the 81st Academy Awards this February.
WGA: Best Original Screenplay
Woody Allen (Vicky Cristina Barcelona) Dustin Lance Black (Milk) Joel and Ethan Coen (Burn After Reading) Tom McCarthy (The Visitor) Robert Siegel (The Wrestler)

WGA: Best Adapted Screenplay
Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire) Jonathan and Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight) Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon) Eric Roth (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) John Patrick Shanley (Doubt)

SAG: Lead Actor, Drama:
Richard Jenkins (the visitor) Frank Langella (frost/Nixon) Brad Pitt (Benjamin Button) Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler) Sean Penn (Milk)

SAG: Lead Actress, Drama:
Anne Hathaway (Rachel Getting Married) Angelina Jolie (Changeling) Melissa Leo (Frozen River) Meryl Streep (Doubt) Kate Winslet (Revolutionary Road)

DGA: Best Director, Feature film
Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire) David Fincher (Benjamin Button) Ron Howard (Frost/Nixon) Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight) Gus Van Sant (Milk)
It bears noting that four times in the DGA’s 60 year history has their award for best director failed to go on to win Oscar Gold.
